VIOLET CLASS ASSEMBLY
Well done to Violet Class for their excellent assembly today. It was lovely to see parents supporting the children.
LIBRARY
There will be no further library sessions this term and we would ask children to return their library books to Mrs Kilminster from next Tuesday.
SWANAGE RESIDENTIAL TRIP
The residential trip to Swanage last week was a huge success thanks to the dedication and hard work of the staff - and to God for the beautiful weather. The children were a credit to you and to the school. Several people said how good they were - compared to other school groups they had been working with, and made us feel very proud of them.
We in turn would like to say how much we appreciated the thanks and tokens of gratitude that we received following the trip. These occasions are definitely not a jolly for staff - who come on an entirely voluntary basis - but work very hard with little sleep, so it is great to know that you appreciate their efforts and care of your children while they are away.
VOUCHERS
Last chance to pass in your superstore vouchers. Please don't let them go to waste - have a look around and pass through any lurking tokens - thank you.
MISSING SCOOTER
If you have a little girl who rides a scooter to school please could you double-check that you have taken the right one home! We have one young lady whose scooter has gone missing. It is pink with the initials BW on. We know we have several all the same so it is quite easy to take the wrong one home.

Dear Parents,
GENERAL HYGIENE ADVICE
In the light of the current concerns regarding Swine Flu we would like to share with you the hygiene advice recently sent to the school:-
Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue
Dispose of dirty tissues promptly and carefully
Maintain good basic hygiene, for example washing hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of any virus from your hands to your face, or to other people
Clean hard surfaces frequently using a normal cleaning product or sanitising wipe
Please talk to your children about these points and help us to keep any nasty bugs at bay.
SATS WEEK
Please help us to make our SATS week run smoothly by ensuring that your children are in school by 8-55 a.m. every day next week ready for the prompt test starting time. This is especially important for our Year 6 children!
LIBRARY
Next week our library sessions will be for Orange Class on Tuesday morning, Yellow and Green Class on Wednesday and Red Class on Thursday.
OfSTED
Just before the end of last term the school received another internal review by the Local Authority. Once again we have been told that we are doing well in addressing the OfSTED issues. In particular, there was said to be “a clear culture that is focused on raising standards”, and “behaviour observed during the visit was good”. We are delighted that our hard work has been recognised and will continue to do all we can to raise standards even further over the coming months.
RESIDENTIAL TRIP TO SWANAGE
Only five weeks before our residential trip to the Swanage area for children in Years 4, 5 and 6. Thank you to everyone who attended our Information Meeting this week. WE CAN, AND WILL, HELP WHERE POSSIBLE.

SHOES
Please remember that children MUST come to school in sensible shoes that are suitable for PE and physical activity. Boots and flip flops are not appropriate. Thank you for your co-operation.
HEADLICE
Unfortunately we have noticed head-lice after just one day back in school! Please remember that your child's hair should be checked every day and if you find any head-lice or eggs these must be dealt with before your child comes into school. As always it will be necessary to treat the whole family as they spread very easily.
RESIDENTIAL TRIP TO SWANAGE
Our residential trip to Swanage is only seven weeks away and parents of children in Years 4, 5 & 6 are invited to attend an Information Meeting on Wednesday 6th May at 3-40 p.m. Do come along and see where we are staying and look at the exciting schedule of trips! If you have any questions this would be a great time to ask either Ms Murch, Mrs Long or Mrs Handford.
SWIMMING
The children in KS2 (Violet, Blue and Green Classes) will start swimming at Newton Abbot Leisure Centre next Tuesday until the 14th July (excluding 16th June).
As with previous years the school will have to make a charge for these swimming sessions at the bargain price of £1-80 per week which may be paid at the beginning of each week or in one lump sum (10 weeks at £1-80 = £18-00 - cheques payable to Devon County Council).
Remember bathing costumes and towels need to be marked with your child's name and please make sure that your child has a coat as some afternoons in May can still be very cold, especially after just getting out of the pool!
Finally … parental help with supervising the coach travel and changing rooms would be appreciated - do we have any brave dads who would be able to help supervise the boys changing rooms and encourage the children to get dressed quickly? As with all our volunteers a CRB (police) check will need to be completed, but we can help with this!
PARENTS IN SCHOOL
Thank you to all the parents who have taken up the offer to come into school for a morning in their child's class. Those who have commented have said that it's been very interesting - look out for further invitations in the coming weeks.
Parents of children in Orange Class will receive an invitation to their class assembly next Friday, 1st May, at timeHour15Minute03-05 p.m.
NEW TAI KWONDO CLUB

SUNSHINE!
The days are getting warmer and we would ask for your co-operation in putting sun-cream on your child before he/she comes to school. As the children spend playtimes outside please also ensure that they have a sun-hat or cap to wear. We do have caps on sale in school - please ask in the school office.

PARENT GOVERNOR VACANCY
We have not yet heard from any brave parents who would like to put themselves forward as our next Parent Governor.
Some information is given below on how Governing Bodies operate and if this encourages you to get involved please speak to either Ms Murch or Mrs Heathman. If only one parent applies for the vacancy no ballot will be held, however, if more than one person is interested this will go to a vote.
The governing body is accountable for the performance of the school and it fulfils this by setting the aims of the school and its priorities for improvement. It agrees, monitors and evaluates the
policies, targets and actions by which the school will move forward, including setting and monitoring the school budget.
The governing body's role is strategic. Governors are not expected to be involved in the detail of the day-to-day management of the school. The headteacher has responsibility for the internal organisation, management and control of the school and for implementation of the strategic framework established by the governing body.
The governing body works in partnership with the headteacher and the senior leadership team. Acting as `critical friends', the governing body has a role to support and challenge the work of the school.
Governors must act corporately. Individual governors do not have the power to act alone unless the corporate governing body has given them the authority to do so. Individual governors have a broadly representative role but they are part of a team. They are not delegates and do not have any kind of mandate from the body who elected or appointed them.
Queries and concerns about any aspect of school life should, in the first instance, be directed to the appropriate member of the school staff rather than to individual governors. It is important that governors are not involved in issues which may become formal complaints as this prevents governors from dealing with the matter impartially at a later stage. Should parents wish to pursue a matter further, having first attempted to resolve the issue with the relevant school staff, then they are requested to put concerns in writing to the chair of governors.
A CRB check will be carried out.
I hope that the above explains a little about the role of the Governing Body. It can be a very interesting role and one which is highly valued by the staff. If you are thinking about the position but are a little concerned about any aspect please ask as training and advice is available to all new governors.

Dear Parents,
“FRIENDS” SPRING FAIR
Well done to the Friends Committee today. We will let you know how much they raised in due course.
The next “Friends” event will be BINGO on Monday evening, 23rd March - eyes down
7-00 p.m.
LIBRARY
Next week library sessions will be for Violet and Blue Classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning.
CLASS ASSEMBLY
Well done to Blue Class who produced a WONDERFUL Class Assembly today. We will let you know as soon as possible about the next invitation to class assembly
SWIMMING
The children in KS2 (Violet, Blue and Green Classes) will again be swimming on Tuesday afternoons at Newton Abbot Leisure Centre, starting after the Easter holidays (28th April) until the end of the summer term.
As with previous years the school will have to make a charge for these swimming sessions at the bargain price of £1-80 per week. This is excellent value as swimming lessons normally cost £4-00+ per session - not including transport costs. Your child will be in a small group of approximately eight children.
Please have a look in cupboards to turn out swimming trunks and costumes so that we are organised for the start of the new school term.
SWIMMING - ORANGE & YELLOW CLASSES
The children in placeCityOrange and Yellow Classes will again have the use of Bovey Tracey outdoor pool from Thursday 4th June until Thursday 16th July - more details nearer the time.
BODY LANGUAGE
Last Tuesday children from Violet Class gave an outstanding performance at the Body Language Dance Festival at placePlaceNameSouth PlaceNameDartmoor PlaceTypeCommunity college. We have received emails from other schools in the area commenting on the quality of their dance and also their behaviour. We are very proud of all the children involved and our particular thanks go to Miss Cleave for all her hard work and for the time she has given to help the children perform to such a high standard.

Dear Parents,
GOVERNOR'S MESSAGE
It was lovely to see so many of you at the Parents' Meeting on Wednesday. Jeff Williams opened the meeting and handed over to Ms Murch who gave a comprehensive overview of progress since the OFSTED Inspection. It was delightful to see the film of children at work and play - a real snapshot of a typical day at St Catherine's. Staff and Governors have been working tirelessly to address the issues raised by the Inspection and our recent interim inspection was very positive. We hope we will all be able to celebrate together after OFSTED's next visit - as Jeff said in the meeting, however, we have no idea, and no control over, when that will be.
The question and answer session was very frank and gave rise to some excellent discussion. A number of points raised by parents have been taken on board by Governors and we will seek to implement as many as possible within the foreseeable future. As Jeff underlined during the meeting communication is a two-way street and we hope that this meeting was the first of many where we can openly discuss with one another. In the meantime we would like to remind you all that the process for raising individual issues is to speak first to the class teacher, then to Ms Murch and then to the Governing Body.
There will be further Governor surgeries where anyone is welcome to come along and, additionally, if you have any suggestions for improvements we would be very pleased to consider them if you could note them down and pass them to Mrs Heathman.

A TASTE OF FRANCE!
We have been very fortunate to have a French teacher with us for the last two weeks. She is called Mrs Nadège Hawkins and is keen to forge relationships with the school. Already the children in Green Class have received postcards from her own class in Carcassonne and returned some of their own!
Mrs Hawkins has been able to spend time in Orange, Yellow, Green and Blue Classes so far and the children have thoroughly enjoyed the culture change. Mrs Hawkins is with us for another week and would like to take photographs back to her own school. If any parent has an objection to this please could you let us know by Tuesday 10th February? If you have already confirmed that you do not want your child's photograph taken this will of course be respected.
LIBRARY
Next week library sessions will be for Orange Class on Tuesday, Yellow and Green Classes on Wednesday and Red Class on Thursday morning.

Sadly, due to low numbers, Miss Glenny has had to cancel the Key Stage One Maths Workshop on Tuesday 10th February. She will look into running other sessions for parents at more convenient times.
ROK - NEW CHILDREN'S CENTRE
Latest news from the Contracts Manager at ROK
Firstly on behalf of ROK, I would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused to staff, pupils and parents due to a foundation pile striking the water main last December. Unfortunately it was unmarked on any service drawings so we were unaware it was there.
Regarding progress, the concrete slab is complete, the steel walls are 90% complete and the roof trusses will be craned into position on Saturday morning 14th February. Brickwork can then commence with completion aimed for the end of May.
HEADLICE
We have received reports of head lice - it seems they don't mind the cold weather! Please check your child's hair tonight and if you find any unwelcome visitors please deal with these. There are various methods you can use to discourage head lice and if you would like any advice please ask in the school office. As always, once found it is necessary to treat the whole family to stop the spread.

Dear Parents,
COMMUNICATION WITH SCHOOL
Sometimes our weekly newsletter is short and occasionally can fill three pages and we pride ourselves in being one of only three schools in the academic area to produce a weekly newsletter for you. If your eldest child does not give you a newsletter on a Friday evening please ask them to pop back into the classroom and collect it - it may be in their tray with other treasures e.g. a broken pencil, a half eaten apple, a screwed up PE shirt and that important letter that you didn't receive two years ago!
Communication is also a two-way thing and we would encourage parents to speak to class teachers initially if they have any concerns. Very often a quick word with the teacher will allay any worries. If you are not satisfied please do speak to Ms Murch via the school office. She is available where possible first thing in the morning for a quick chat but if you need longer then please make a mutually convenient appointment.
We would like to give you advance notice of a Parents Evening to be held on Wednesday 4th March at 7-00 p.m. Come along and share your ideas on how we can continue to improve - a form is attached to help us formulate the outline of the evening - your views are much appreciated.
INTERIM VISIT BY HM INSPECTOR
As many of you may know the school received a monitoring visit on Tuesday 20th January which is the usual practice for a school in our current situation. The official outcome will be available to view on the internet when all the formalities are completed and we will let you know more information as soon as we can.
SCHOOL MEALS
Please find attached our new and exciting menu designed by the children! Well done to all the children involved in the new layout! This will be fine-tuned again next week to include spaces to enable each family member to choose a different option and also include the dessert!
Next week's desserts will be:
Monday = Fruit crumble and custard
Tuesday = Sticky chocolate slice with chocolate sauce
Wednesday = Iced Fruit Smoothie
Thursday = Custard Biscuit and Fruit Juice
Friday = Chocolate and date cookie with milk drink
TEA AND LITERACY!
Orange Class would like to invite their mums, dads and carers to join them for an introduction to phonics on Wednesday 4th February at 2-45 p.m. The children will explain how they are using phonics to help them read and write. Tea and coffee will be served after.
GREEN CLASS -
CAN YOU LISTEN TO READERS?
Mrs Seymour would welcome a few volunteers to help listen to the children read. If you are free either between 9-00 and 9-20 a.m. or from 1-00 - 1-20 p.m. please have a word with Mrs Seymour - as always we are very grateful for offers of help. Any volunteers will need to have a CRB check (police check).

Dear Parents,
CLUBS
Our after school clubs are now starting to take off but we still have spaces available in:-
Performing Arts (every Friday).
Netball Club (Thursdays if we have sufficient children and weather permitting).
Football Club (again, we need sufficient children and a little good luck with the weather).
Cookery Club and Recorder Club are now fully booked. A reminder that only children in Year 2 will be able to attend the Cookery Club (as advertised). For safety reasons we can only take a small group working with the cooker and equipment.
Other Clubs:-
Premier Sport Tag Rugby - Wednesdays
Bible Club - Wednesdays
Living Word Library - fortnightly Tuesday lunchtimes
INTRODUCING MRS DENNIS
The Local Authority has provided additional funds to support teaching and learning at the top end of the school and from next week Mrs Lucy Dennis will be joining our teaching staff to assist in Year 5 on a part-time basis. This will enable Mrs Handford to concentrate on Year 6 each morning. Mrs Dennis is already known to the children as she has been our occasional supply teacher in Green Class.
LIBRARY
Next week library sessions will be for Violet and Blue Classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning.
KEY FOBS
We are looking forward to launching our new lunchtime play scheme next week. As well as the key fob equipment our Violet Class pupils will be leading lots of group games so, weather permitting, our lunchtimes will be a highlight of the school day from now on. Key fobs are still available at 50p if your child does not yet have one. Mrs Seymour is happy to clarify any issues relating to the key fobs.

My apologies to all the children who attend the Youth Club. Unfortunately as you may know I have been unwell and the Youth Club has been cancelled until further notice. For the sake of the children who enjoy the Youth Club I would like to ask if anyone could fill my shoes in order for the Youth Club to continue in my absence? If you feel you could help please come and see me.
Thank you. Kelly Westbury

ELECTION OF PARENT GOVERNOR
Your ballot papers were issued to you either Wednesday or Thursday of this week. Please remember that you only have one week to return your ballot paper to the ballot box.
Here is a reminder of the candidates:-
MISS LUCINDA REID
Our child is in key stage 1, we are a local family living in Heathfield. I have been working in a primary school environment for the last five years. I am an extremely approachable person who is always happy and willing to listen to fellow parents about their thoughts and ideas of the children's welfare at the school. I strongly believe that education at this stage is critical to the child's future, and so therefore feel my contributions would be constructive in helping the school to evolve.
MRS MICHELLE DAVEY
I have been nominated for the position of Parent Governor, so I have been asked to let parents know a bit about myself. For those of you who don't know me:-
I have two children at this school Holly who is a Year Six now (where did those years go) and has been here since reception and Jake who is now a Year 2. I am involved with the PTA at this school and have been for 5 years and for 4 of those years I was the Treasurer. I have also been in to help with reading on a Monday morning for two years with Green Class.
Besides working hard as a volunteer at the school I am also the Chairman of the Community Centre and one of your local councillors on Bovey Town Council, which would also bring to the Governing body links within the local community that can only benefit the school.
I would like to represent and be a voice for all the parents of this school as I feel that we as parents have a great deal to contribute to this school to enable the school to achieve its highest goal.
You can be assured that if you voice any concerns or praise for the school I will indeed act upon it and deal with it to the best of my ability. I would like to think that I am an approachable person who is there for you in the playground and around when you need me. Thank you for taking time to read this and whatever the outcome I wish the school every success.

“FRIENDS”
The parents and children who attended Bridgwater Carnival last week had a marvellous evening (no rain!)
Thank you to Mrs Westbury for organising the event and Mr. Hamlyn-White for driving!
COATS
It is now November and surprisingly we still have about thirty children who are coming to school without a coat. Please make sure your son/daughter brings a warm coat to wear as the children love to run around outside at break-time and, of course, it does them good!

Dear Parents,
DARE TO WEAR IT PINK
We had a brilliant day on Thursday 23rd October, just before breaking up. The children and adults wore wonderful “pink” outfits and we are delighted to report that the grand sum of £245 was raised for charity. You may see a report (and photographs) in the Mid Devon Advertiser today. Thank you so much to everyone who gave some time and supported the whole event - but our special thanks to Mrs McCarthy, Miss Glenny, Miss Fowler, Mrs Barker and Mrs Silsby.
THE LEGEND OF THE GOLDEN DRAGON
The children watched a fantastic performance yesterday by the West Midlands Theatre Group. The laughter almost took the hall roof off! If you have yet to pay a contribution of £1-50 towards the performance we would still welcome this as, of course, the fee will help towards the full cost of £345!
REMEMBRANCE DAY - 11th November
Poppies will still be on sale on Monday and Tuesday next week and if any children would like to wear their Brownie/Scout/Cub (or similar) uniform to school on the 11th November these will be welcomed.
CHRISTMAS SHOE BOX APPEAL
If you have made a Christmas Shoe Box at home please could this be delivered into school by next Friday 14th November. We need to transport the boxes to the co-ordinator, who then has to arrange transport well before Christmas. Sorry we will not be able to take any further donations after this time.
Again, our thanks go to Miss Manley who has worked very hard as co-ordinator, wrapping, buying and sorting items for the boxes.
CHILDREN IN NEED
Next Friday, 14th November, is Children in Need day and your donations of pennies would be gratefully received for our usual LINE OF PENNIES charity collection on that day. Our “wear something pink” day was so successful we have decided to have another fun day next Friday and the children (and adults) may come to school in their pyjamas or night-clothes and bring along a favourite bedtime story to share with other children! (We would suggest you pencil their name inside the book in order that we can identify the owner - we may have one or two identical books!)
“FRIENDS”

Please remember, the coach will leave school

Thank you to Mrs Westbury for organising the event.
It's not too late to come along!
Please telephone Mrs Heathman at school before 4-45 p.m. if you would like to join the outing!
LUNCH BOXES
A few children who bring packed-lunches to school also bring a yoghurt/dessert. Unfortunately, we do not keep many tea-spoons in school and would be very grateful if mums and dads could also include a tea-spoon when packing lunches!
NETBALL CLUB
Come on girls and boys - we need at least ten children to run our Netball Club. Unfortunately, until numbers increase Netball Club will need to be postponed.

NEXT THURSDAY - PINK DAY FOR CHARITY
We do hope parents will join the children and staff in our very first PINK DAY FOR CHARITY, next Thursday, 23rd October.
The day is being organised by Mrs McCarthy and Miss Glenny and our thanks to everyone involved.
The children are asked to WEAR SOMETHING PINK AND DONATE £1-00 to school on Thursday and will have the opportunity to show off their pink outfits in a PINK PARADE. Two children from each class will be chosen for making the most inventive pink effort and will receive a certificate. You may even see a few pink adults!
Look out for a mention in the Mid Devon Advertiser as the children will have their photograph taken (weather permitting).
From 3-00 - 4-00 p.m. parents, grandparents, neighbours and friends are welcome to join us for a mini-PINK FETE.
The police will be here with some vehicles and will do PINK FINGER-PRINTING.
Drinks and pink cakes will be available to purchase.
PINK HAIR-STYLING AND FACE PAINTING will be available for a small charge.
You are cordially invited to join the children and staff and we would ask that you allow your child to bring a small amount of money into school next Thursday to spend at our mini-fete. (All for charity).
CANCER RESEARCH FUNDRAISING
One of our parents is kindly organising fundraising for Cancer Research and you can support her by depositing any old/unwanted bras in the box available in reception, or delivering them to
23 Cannon Road, Heathfield.
HALLOWEEN & BONFIRE NIGHT
We have been asked to pass on the concerns of our local MP, Mr. Richard Younger-Ross, regarding both Halloween and Bonfire Night. We believe his views are very sensible and we are very happy to share these with you.
The age old tradition of “Trick or Treating” is a good time for children and one they should be able to fully enjoy, however, young children roaming the streets unsupervised could put them at risk. I would ask that parents ensure an adult accompanies younger children on a planned route, that they stay close to their own neighbourhood, never enter a stranger's home and wear clothing that can easily be seen.
Equally, Halloween can unknowingly frighten some of our more elderly residents and can cause severe intimidation.
Parents please remind your children NEVER to pick up or throw fireworks, and to keep animals safe and well aware from harm.

Thank you to everyone who supported us at the Book Fair yesterday. The “shop” will be open for business again on Monday evening from 3-45 to 6-30 p.m. during Parents Evening.
WEAR PINK DAY - October 23rd
Mrs McCarthy has done a wonderful job of organising a special PINK day on Thursday 23rd October (just before half term). We will have lots of PINK activities, including cake decorating and SILLY PINK HAIR! This is advance notice that the Year 6 children will be “gelling, spiking and pinking” any child who would like to have a BAD HAIR DAY and if you have any objections or concerns, especially with regard to allergies, please let Mrs Heathman or Mrs Gallanders know as soon as possible. We would ask each child to bring in 20p on that day to help towards the fund-raising efforts and our special thanks go to ASDA and BOOTS who have kindly agreed to sponsor the events.
YEAR 6 CHILDREN
If you have any queries please telephone
0845 1551019.
FRUIT
A reminder that the younger children (Key Stage One) are entitled to a piece of free fruit at break-time. There is no need for your younger child to bring in fruit from home, or purchase fruit.

Next week our library sessions will be for Violet and Blue Classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
CLUBS
COOKERY CLUB - due to our Parents' Evening next Monday Cookery Club will need to be cancelled on Monday 13th October.
FOOTBALL CLUB - MONDAYS with Mrs Seymour
Unfortunately, due to a number of reasons we have not had much luck with the Football Club on a Monday evening and, of course, next Monday 13th October is Parents Evening so the Football Club will need to be cancelled yet again. Our apologies - we are looking at alternatives and will let you know.
VOLUNTEERS IN SCHOOL
We love parents to come and be involved in their children's learning here at St. Catherine's and if you haven't yet been in to help or see what we do, why not give it a go? Due to safeguarding requirements you would first need a CRB check but we can organise this for you and once we have the paperwork back, you are welcome to join us.
FESTIVAL OF LANGUAGES - YEAR 4
Next Wednesday the Year 4 children will be visiting South Dartmoor Community College for an exciting Festival of Languages. Some children have been a little nervous about this trip but please rest assured that Mrs Long and Mrs Seymour will be accompanying the group and they will have a wonderful time.
SCHOOL GATES
Please help us by closing the school pedestrian gates if you are the last person through.
We are also aware that there are difficulties arising in accessing the school entrance in between the usual collecting and delivering times. If you need to visit the school after 9-15 a.m. or before 3-30 p.m. (excluding the lunch-times) access is only available through the vehicular gate. Please walk through these gates and across the road very carefully, ensuring that no vehicles or hazards are around. Be aware that building work is in progress and lorries and other vehicles may also need to use the same gate.

A brand new initiative from the “Friends” committee!
Our hard-working committee have organised yet another fantastic evening for family and friends to get together - NEXT FRIDAY 17TH OCTOBER in school from 5-30 - 7-00 p.m.

Report by Alice Crouch and Gena Browning-Young
OUR VISIT TO TEIGN SCHOOL
The Year Fives enjoyed the opportunity to meet Brazilian Headteachers, from primary and secondary schools. Those children were Alice, Amelia, Brittany, Charlie, Gena, Jodie, Melissa, Sam, Sammy, Scott, Tom and Zoe, and the lucky adults that went with them were Miss James and Mrs Long. They also learned a Brazilian song, which was very catchy, and got involved in a pen-pal programme with the children in the Brazilian schools. Hopefully they will write back to us and then we will be able to email them. The children learned their names in Portuguese.
YELLOW PAGES
This is a last call for Yellow Pages! The final collection is next Tuesday. We would welcome any last deliveries on Monday, however, please don't bring in any further Yellow Pages after Tuesday morning.

Dear Parents,
HARVEST FESTIVAL - next Monday 29th Sept
We would like to welcome parents, grandparents, family, friends and neighbours to join our Harvest Festival celebration on Monday at 2-30 p.m. We would be grateful if children could bring in a harvest donation (a tin, fresh food or packaged foods) on Monday morning and as usual we will hold a sale after school. This year the harvest funds will go to “Water Aid”.
PHOTOGRAPHS
Please follow the instructions in your photograph envelope. If you would like to make an order this must be done on Monday morning at the latest, with the payment included in the envelope (payable to H. Tempest Ltd) and returned to school. Don't forget - if you miss the deadline you will need to post your envelope to the company and a late payment fee will be charged.
YELLOW PAGES
A special note of thanks to Alice and Mr. & Mrs Crouch who have helped us to accumulate 157 Yellow Pages so far! These have been collected but we have a further collection scheduled for the 9th October so it is not too late to bring your Yellow Pages to school for recycling.
As well as cash prizes for the top 3 schools there will also be a chance to win a further two prizes of £50!
CHRISTMAS SHOE BOX APPEAL
This Christmas the school will once again be supporting the Samaritan's Purse Christmas Shoebox appeal. The Samaritan's distribute shoe boxes full of goodies to war torn countries enabling the children in these areas to have at least one parcel during the festive period.
In a few weeks we shall begin our collection. Therefore, anyone interested in contributing may like to be on the look-out for suitable items - perhaps toy boxes are going to be sorted before Christmas - any scarves, toys, pens etc (in good condition) can be included.
If you would like to participate in this appeal you can either cover and fill your own shoe box and label it “boy” or “girl” or you can bring in individual items and leave at the collection point by the office. We will then make up as many boxes as possible and send them from St. Catherine's. Items needed include toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, flannels, pens, pencils, paper, small toys (not battery operated), balls hats, gloves, scarves (basically if it will fit into a shoebox [not liquid or food items] it will probably be O.K.)
If you have any shoeboxes at home which you can donate we would be very grateful.
We are also after a volunteer to help organise, wrap and put together the Christmas shoe-boxes. If you have an hour or two to spare now and again please let Mrs Heathman know.
LIBRARY
Next week our library sessions will be for Violet and Blue Classes, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
LUNCH BOXES
This week some children have asked whether they can dispose of their lunch box remains at school and I thought a quick note to explain why we send the lunch-boxes home with the “remains” would be useful to you. We believe that parents need to see how much a child has eaten (or left) so that you can gauge whether your child's lunch is “just right”, “too much” or perhaps not liked!
PARENTS' EVENINGS & APPOINTMENTS
Parent interviews are scheduled for Thursday 9th October, from 5-30 - 8-00 p.m. and again for Monday 13th October from 3-45 - 6-30 p.m.
Please help us by returning your appointment slip as soon as possible. It is a major task to fit family groups together and merge with the right class, at the right time! Your help in returning your slip promptly is much appreciated.
BICYCLES AND SCOOTERS
In order to avoid any confusion it would be sensible if all scooters and bicycles are clearly marked with the owner's name.
